What is a wigglegram camera, and how does it work?
A digital wigglegram camera uses side-by-side lenses to capture a moment from multiple horizontal angles simultaneously. Its software instantly loops these frames into a 3D animation. For a smooth effect, the frames have to be precisely aligned around a single focal point, causing the background to shift dynamically while the subject stays still.
Why is the digital wigglegram camera a big deal?
Traditional wigglegram cameras used to cast the images of their 4 different lenses onto one single piece of film. This film had to be developed, sectioned into 4 pieces, digitalized, and aligned in a special video software to make the final wigglegram. With our digital wigglegram camera, all these steps are compacted into one tap of a screen.
What is the current stage of development of the merged. camera?
Currently, the second prototype of the camera is being tested. The images which are visible on the homepage originate from this prototype. Better image quality is on the way!
Can merged. directly transform the 4 taken images into a wigglegram?
Yes. Either the user can select the focus points by hand on all 4 images, or, and this is the majority’s favoured option, tap once on the first picture and let an AI algorithm select the same points on the remaining frames. Either way, the camera handles the rest: positioning, cropping and converting into a wigglegram.
What file formats does the camera output?
The merged. camera can output the wigglegrams as GIFs, or as short, looped videos, depending on the user’s choice. While GIFs are more practical to look at in your phone gallery, videos offer a greater color variety and quality.
How does the merged. camera perform in low light?
On top of the prominent and bright (and, let’s be honest, stylish) front flash of the camera, there is also a designated night mode, which the user can activate on the touchscreen. In short: merged. is perfect for poorly lit parties and social gatherings.
What is the estimated price of the merged. camera?
We are aiming at a price point under $250. Our goal is to make the merged. camera as accessible as possible for you, which includes lowering the price tag as much as possible.
Where can I see real wigglegrams from the camera?
Every wigglegram on this site is a real shot from a merged. prototype, not a mockup or render. The Wigglegram Library collects all of them in one place, and we post new wigglegrams to Instagram first as we shoot them.
